Volunteer Today

 Volunteers Needed in the St George and Sutherland area

We are now recruiting volunteers for our CanCare program in the St George and Sutherland area.

Many people do not have the support they need as they deal with the challenges of a cancer diagnosis. Our small team of dedicated volunteers support people with cancer. Volunteers provide support outside of the healthcare setting and assist a person in a mentoring, peer support capacity by “walking alongside” and providing customised support, education and advocacy.

We believe “A little bit of help goes a long way”, and for the many people who do not have the support they need any help is really appreciated. In this role you will become part of a person’s much needed support network.

As a volunteer CanCare Navigator you will provide one-on-one support to a person with cancer in the community either in their home or at a mutually agreed location. The support you will provide can include anything from finding information, organising home help, sourcing medical equipment and supplies, finding transport, completing complex forms, organising Webster packs, linking a person to support services or just being there for a coffee and a chat when needed.
To ensure you have the skills required to be one of our volunteers you will be required to attend a FREE 2-day training program where you will:

  • learn more about the health system;
  • understand the disease process;
  • further develop your communication skills;
  • develop skills to manage difficult conversations;
  • develop a better understanding of the many challenges a person with cancer faces; and
  • learn more about cancer services and source credible cancer information.

As a volunteer CanCare Navigator you will be supported by the CanCare Program Manager, have access to further training opportunities offered through the Foundation and have access to a peer support network of other volunteers.

The role of the CanCare Navigator is flexible and this allows you to volunteer at a time that is convenient for you and the person you are supporting. This is a rewarding role where your support, often for just a few hours a week can make a real difference.

Join thousands of people from all walks of life who give their time to help Australians in need.

Whether you are a retiree, student or just looking to work with others, learn new skills and make friends, join with us today and support a person in need.

Our next training program will be announced soon.
